Marled – Chalmers Ventures
Logo Design
Brand Identity
Website
Time: 85h
This was the first significant project where we had the opportunity to work with a real client. It was a collaboration between YRGO and Chalmers Ventures /link to chalmers ventures/, where we, as designers, were tasked with creating a website and a brand identity for a Chalmers Ventures company. The project spanned approximately two months, during which we meticulously worked to meet the client's needs, both in the visual expression of the logo and the overall design of the website.

Throughout this project, I gained invaluable experience in leading a team. One of the most rewarding aspects was the client interaction, where I learned to interpret their language and understand their needs and expectations. This hands-on experience provided a deep insight into the collaborative process, from initial client meetings to final deliverables, and taught me how to navigate the complexities of client communication and project management.

This project not only enhanced my technical skills but also significantly improved my ability to lead and work within a team, ensuring that we met and exceeded the client’s expectations.

Background / Brief
During our initial meeting with Mareld, we discussed the project objectives, focusing on creating a brand identity and website that aligns with their unique identity while resonating with industry giants like Tetra Pak and SIG Combibloc.

The key objectives include developing a graphic profile and logo that convey dependability, precision, efficiency, and simplicity. The website should effectively communicate Mareld's offerings to industrial application users and potential collaborators, emphasizing their speed, accuracy, and customer-centric approach.

In our competitive and SWOT analysis, we identified Mareld's strengths and weaknesses, showcasing their technology and user-friendly solutions.

Design elements such as the logo, typography, color palette, and website design were discussed to ensure a modern, visually appealing, and easy-to-navigate platform that showcases Mareld's core values while standing out from competitors.
Solution
Throughout the entire process, we kept the company's four key words—Dependable, Precise, Efficiency, and Simplicity—at the forefront of our design decisions.

We chose a blue color palette inspired by the phenomenon of mareld, reflecting the dark blue of the ocean and the turquoise of the phenomenon itself, aligning with the company’s name. Additionally, we introduced two accent colors requested by the client: a strong yellow to complement the blue and a purple that provides a trustworthy impression, ensuring our design is dependable.

The logo is a simple, minimalist image of a Petri dish, crucial to the company’s sample analysis process. We created three different logo options, and my proposal was chosen. The creation process began with precise hand sketches, which were then digitized and constructed on a grid to ensure scalability.

For the website, we researched competitors and other B2B companies to understand their designs. The company wanted their design to resemble other sites for familiarity, ensuring efficiency, but also stand out and be bold. We maintained similar design elements to competitors, using stronger and darker colors to add uniqueness.

In terms of typography, we selected a bold and stable typeface, Oswald, to reflect the client’s values of stability and simplicity. For the website's body text, we used System-UI to reduce the amount of data required to load the site, maintaining simplicity.
Conclusion
The project concluded successfully with the client deciding to move forward with both the web design and the logo/brand identity we developed. Our collaborative efforts resulted in a brand presence that aligns well with the client’s vision and industry standards.

As the project leader, I guided the team through each phase of the development process. My logo design was selected as the final choice by the client, encapsulating the company's essence with simplicity and precision.

I created all the mockups and presentations shown to the client, which were crucial in communicating our ideas and securing client approval. Additionally, I played a significant role in making key decisions regarding the brand identity guide. This guide includes detailed instructions on how to use the brand elements effectively, ensuring consistency across all platforms.

Overall, my leadership and contributions in logo design and brand identity were pivotal in bringing this project to a successful conclusion, resulting in a cohesive and compelling brand identity that positions the client for future success.
